Additions and Renovations
We handle everything from kitchens, bathrooms, and decks to large additions and accessory dwelling units. Working with older homes is a passion of ours: we’re respectful students of the techniques and traditions of New England’s distinct architectural heritage. Our goal is for every project, regardless to size, to be true its context, site, and project requirements.
-
New Construction
We bring our deep knowledge of historic homebuilding techniques to bear when doing new construction, especially if it is one of our own designs. New construction is the best opportunity to build something that truly reflects your vision. And it offers the opportunity to do the entire project to modern standards for energy efficiency, wind and seismic resistance, and comfort and accessibility.
-
Design/Build
Before anything gets built, you need to have a plan! Although we’re happy to bid on a project and work with your architect or designer, we are a design-build capable general contracting firm with a thoroughly refined process to bring your concepts and ideas to fruition. We design buildings and renovations that are humanistic and classically proportioned, yet contemporary and comfortable.
-
Light Commercial
We’ve frequently brought our passion for projects that are contextual and contemporary to commercial renovation projects – restaurants, bars, retail spaces and offices.
-
Zoning and Permitting
Even before you begin a design process it can be difficult just to understand what you’re allowed to do with your property! We’ll help you intrepret your local zoning ordinance and the Massachusetts building code so that you can clearly and easily understand what is allowed and what’s not, along with time tested guidance about how to navigate zoning appeals and special permits.
-
Energy Efficiency
Massachusetts leads the nation in energy efficiency standards for renovations and new construction and provides incentives, guidelines, and rules at every level of a project. Updated best practices for air and watertight construction come with new standards for ventilation and indoor air quality. We provide clear guidance to help you navigate these new standards and integrate them into your build.
